One of the first new models to be launched following the acquisition of AML by Company Developments, the Aston Martin Vantage debuted in May 1972. Sharing the same frontal aspect as its Series 2 V8 sibling (complete with twin seven-inch headlamps and more traditional grille), it was based around a sheet steel platform chassis equipped with independent front suspension, a De Dion rear axle, power-assisted rack and pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes. Notable as the last Newport Pagnell car to carry the legendary Tadek Merak designed 3995cc DOHC straight-six engine, the Aston Martin Vantage was predominantly specified in triple Weber carburettor tune (325bhp, 290lbft) and could be had with a choice of five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission. A capable and refined 2+2 grand tourer that was reputedly capable of over 140mph, it was visually distinguished by the fitment of wire wheels. Only in production for a single season, just 70 or so are thought to have been made.
Finished in deep metallic green with oatmeal leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its 3995cc engine, three-speed automatic transmission, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. First registered on 13th September 1973, 'YTP 777M' is thought to have had just two private keepers before entering the current ownership in September 2003. Reportedly used for "regular continental tours and holidays" since then, it boasts restructured front seats and a remodelled, more luggage-friendly boot (incorporating side lockers for easy access to the battery, fuel pumps, tools and sundry spares etc). While, mechanical work over the last three years has seen the car benefit from attention to its triple Weber carburettors, offside rear wheel bearing and alternator as well as being fitted with an additional Kenlowe electric fan, new tyres / inner tubes, front / rear brake pads and heated rear windscreen. Apparently given engine oil and filter changes every six months, 'YTP 777M' is also understood to have been treated to a reconditioned automatic gearbox in December 2005. Stated to have covered 97,825 miles from new, this extremely rare Aston Martin Vantage is offered for sale with history file, workshop manual and MOT certificate valid until September 14th 2007.
