We are indebted to the vendor for the following description:

"Since my ownership it has been worked on by only three Norton specialists, Mick Hemmings and Jim Poole in Northampton and Norman White at Thruxton

When I first acquired this motorcycle, although it was Customs & DVLA inspected, it went to Mick Hemmings for a check over. Mick identified several improvements but through work overload and racing commitments Mick passed it to his neighbour Jim Pool. He fitted a Mick Hemmings Front Disk Brake Assembly, Hemmings Vernier Isolastic engine mountings & adjusters (with Hemmings original instructions and key). Rita Electronic Ignition, replacement clutch plates, rear brake shoes and 18” WM3 Rear wheel, together with anything else he deemed needed doing, cables, seals, gaskets, fuel, hoses etc, no expense spared. All Invoices available." The following notes below are kindly given by the vendor.

In 2014 it went to Norman White to have the Alton Electric Starter fitted. Superb piece of kit. While Norman had the Norton, I asked him to test ride it and generally check it over.

The consequence was a top end overhaul, new valves, seats and guides, steel petrol tank cleaned and sealed, cylinder head and carbs vapour cleaned and new Bridgstone Tyres. What a difference those tyres made to the handling, l would not have believed it!

When he handed the bike back to me, he concluded that it was, “One of the nicest, unmolested examples he had seen”, and best of all, “It handles like new and has all the power of the original Combat Commando”.

Combat Engine …… Factory produced high compression with hot cams and 32mm carbs.

Condition: Superb ……. Paintwork, chrome, stainless and alloy all sparkling. Cylinder head and carbs cleaned. Mechanically no faults. No smoke, quiet even tick-over on the original 32mm twin carbs. Nice bark when opened up and real growl on the overrun. Kick starts 1-2nd kick but at ‘73 I don’t carry the weight these days, so the electric start does the work. Original Speedo/Rev Counter and Lucas indicators, reflectors & lighting.

No cheap import after-market parts. No scratches, dents, corrosion and no oil leaks!

Mileage: Not guaranteed but I would guess at around 25,000-30,000 from new. There is an oil change sticker on the cross bar under the tank, showing 18,000. The speedo showed 6,058 when I purchased it. However bear in mind I have personally only covered 1,000 miles in the last 20 years. MOT’s available to verify. The engine and transmission are so quiet I have no reason to question.
