Launched in 1975, the XJ-S enjoyed a remarkable twenty-one year long production run. Powered by either a punchy straight-six or soporific V12 (5343cc) engine, the latter SOHC unit was quoted as developing some 280bhp and 306lbft of torque. Featuring smooth shifting automatic transmission as standard, the 5.3 litre XJ-S was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds and 150mph. Yet for all its performance capability, the Jaguar proved a refined and relaxing drive.
Announced at the 1990 Birmingham Motor Show and introduced to celebrate Jaguar’s victory at the 1988 and 1990 Le Mans 24 Hours, the 280 car run of Le Mans XJ-S models featured a number of cosmetic improvements over the standard cars. These included quad headlamps, extra trim and badging along with lattice alloy wheels. The silky smooth 5.3-litre V12 remained in its usual form allied to an automatic transmission.
This limited edition Le Mans model is number 154 of 280 examples produced and comes with numerous invoices totalling thousands of pounds expended on it. Benefiting from a recent service which included new spark plugs, oil and filters, new oil cooler, new tyres and the replacement of all fuel rail rubbers and injector seals with Ethanol resistant material. The interior is described as being “excellent” with headlining, woodwork, carpets and cream leather seats in very good condition. The bodywork is also said to be in fine condition with no visible signs of rust. This desirable XJ-S is accompanied by a service book stamped to 117,000 miles, owner’s books and folder, tool kit and a no advisory MOT valid until 15 February 2025.
