The success that had greeted the introduction of the XT and TT 500 combined with increasingly strict emission controls on two stroke machines prompted Yamaha to develop a 250cc four stroke single trail bike. Released in 1981 the new model quickly established itself as a popular mount with riders, particularly those seeking to venture off road. The motorcycle was powered by a single over head cam, single cylinder four stroke with two valves, developing 22bhp, sufficient to propel the little XT to 75mph. Drive taken to the rear wheel via a five speed gearbox. The frame featured Yamaha's cantilever monoshock design that had been proven on both the on and off road Grand Prix tracks of the world. The usual off road fittings such as a high level exhaust system, flexible high mounted mudguards, knobbly tyres and braced handlebars were all present. The new model was subsequently joined by a TT variant that dispensed with items such as lights and was intended primarily for fun use off road.
The example of the TT offered is described by the vendor as being in running condition. TT250's are comparatively rare although parts for them are plentiful thanks to their relationship to the more plentiful XT250. This example was imported from the United States and is offered Vat and Duty paid in the UK.
