In 1972, the Aston Martin V8 coupe replaced the previous DBS, the final batch of which employed the Tadek Marek designed V8 that had always been intended for the new car. The largely alloy power unit of 5340cc capacity developed 360bhp which was mighty powerful for any production road car in those days. The new V8 coupes were highly labour intensive, however, and each of these handbuilt supercars could take up to nine weeks to build. Indeed, Astons went into receivership at the end of 1974, although, happily, they were very soon put back on the road again.
The Scottish vendor tells us that the 1974-manufactured V8 on offer had new sills fitted three years ago during restoration. The Chichester Blue paintwork is described as still being in good condition as is the Beige interior, which is said to be original. The alloy wheels have been recently refurbished. The Newport Pagnell made coupe drives beautifully, he says, and the 50,000 miles indicated when entered for this sale is believed to be genuine - as confirmed by 12 old MOT Test Certificates included in the history file.
