Norton was founded by James Lansdowne Norton in Birmingham in 1898 and began building motorcycles with French and Swiss engines in 1902. In 1907 a Norton with a Peugeot engine won the first Isle of Man TT race starting a long tradition of sporting excellence. Developed for their Manx Norton race bikes, the legendary Featherbed frame eventually made its way onto the road in 1953 housing the 500cc twin cylinder engine.
Research of the engine number 58844 J122 suggests this project bike in parts is a 1954 Dominator 88 model, the frame number is no longer visible. Part of a deceased estate it was stripped down many years ago to be restored, the chassis parts have been blasted and primed but that looks to be as far as it got. Most major items appear to be in place but some parts may have gone missing over the years, unfortunately no documents have been found but a registration plate TTD382 is with the bike. A fascinating challenge to resurrect this bike.
