The Lambretta TV175 series 2 was launched in October 1959. It had an engine based on the Li150 series but with an increased capacity and the crankshaft, barrel, piston and gearbox ratio were changed. The front forks were fitted with external shock absorbers. The Rear plate and fork links were redesigned to cope with the extra power. The British sold TV175 models were fitted with a Veglia 70mph speedometer face and a dual seat. The ‘Lambretta’ and ‘TV175’ side panel badges were attached to the panels with small nuts as opposed to the riveted badges on the series 2 Li panels. Often referred to as the ‘tourer’ or ‘Sportsmans scooter’ it had superb performance at the time and coupled with beautiful styling and has been hugely sought after for many years by collectors.
This extremely presentable mid production example was first registered in Northwich on 8th November 1960 and is the short rear light type. She has been completely restored in the original paint colour of ‘Avorio’. As far as we can see the original parts are almost all present including: Veglia MPH speedo showing 15,588 miles, Becme ignition switch with half moon cover, Becme light switch, the rough sound deadening paint present as correct inside the panels, original keys, Carello lights which are nice and clear. The engine and frame numbers are correct for a mid production TV175 series 2. The seat has been changed to saddles. Our vendor explained that he had prepared the scooter for regular use and the following subtle changes were made to enhance performance without compromising appearance; 12v variatronic electrics for ignition and lighting, a later SH1/20 carburettor, Casa standard correct style exhaust with an attractive chrome tail pipe. She has some period style accessories and a flat rear rack with spare wheel and holder. This scooter represents a great example of the best early 1960’s Lambretta and wants for nothing. Close attention to the quality of the paint and the details such as brass nipples and correct period brass adjusters shows that care has been taken in its preparation.
The scooter comes with a fair amount of original documentation and information. The original RF60 buff log book, green continuation book and some MOTs. There are also a number of photographs pre-restoration which show the scooter in a blue gold colour. The history shows that the original number was regained.
