Lot details
Registration No: PNT825G
Chassis No: 6416698
Mot Expiry: March 2008

Notable as the first front-wheel drive Peugeot, the 204 was launched in Paris on April 23rd 1965. An ambitious and sophisticated design that employed monocoque construction, all-round independent suspension (McPherson strut front / trailing arm rear), rack and pinion steering and disc / drum brakes, it could be had in saloon, coupe, convertible, estate or commercial guises. Mounted atop a four-speed manual gearbox and differential, its light-alloy SOHC four-cylinder engine displaced 1130cc (the maximum size permissible within the French 6CV class). With some 53bhp and 60lbft of torque on tap, the model was reputedly capable of 86mph and 34mpg. A more refined companion than many period 2-litre cars (unless one opted for the 1357cc diesel variant), the 204 remained in production until 1976.

Finished in white with black upholstery, this particular left-hand drive example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, electrical equipment, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Though, he rates the gearbox and interior trim as "excellent" and "average" respectively. Said to have spent most of its life in the South of France, 'PNT 825G' was only UK registered earlier this year. Benefiting from some recent recommissioning work including "five new tyres, front brakes discs, rear wheel cylinders and a fresh exhaust", this rare Peugeot is offered for sale with workshop manual, MOT certificate valid until March 2008 and historic class (free) road tax valid until February 2008.
