The first Ford Anglia was launched in 1939, while the fourth and last - the 105E/123E - broke cover in 1959. The styling displayed a strong American influence and included a sweeping nose, notchback rear window and muted tail fins. The newcomer (105E) benefited from an equally new engine, a 997cc OHV straight-four unit codenamed `Kent', versions of which powered all manner of Fords for years after. In another Ford first, it was mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh on the top three ratios. Suspension was by MacPherson strut at the front and a live axle on leaf springs at the rear. For 1962 Ford introduced the Anglia Super (123E), which was powered by a long stroke 1198cc version of the `Kent' unit mated to an all-synchromesh gearbox. Such versions were instantly recognisable by their contrasting side stripes.

The 1965 123E offered is finished in Blue with a White roof and has been upgraded with a view to competing in classic races and rallies. The Brian Russell engine reportedly features: large valves, a stage one cam, ported and flowed head, Lotus twin-cam distributor, a set of Magnecor KV85 leads, a twin choke Weber, and a Ford 1500GT exhaust manifold linked to a two inch stainless steel system from `Exhausts by Design'. A rolling road test apparently recorded 60bhp at the wheels. Other modifications include: Classic front struts, disc front brakes, a Milton strut brace, Milton uprated engine mounts, and a period Spax telescopic damper conversion at the rear. The Anglia rides on MKII Lotus Cortina wheels shod with new tyres. Safety items include bucket seats, Willans harnesses, a Safety Devices rollcage and a laminated screen. It is now rare to find an Anglia in such fine order, let alone one complete with such apparent competition potential. Harry Potter eat your heart out!
