Styled in-house by Jogi Nagashima, the BMW Z3 entered production in September 1995. Derived from the contemporaneous E36 3-Series Saloon (though, its semi-trailing arm rear suspension was courtesy of the earlier E30), the Roadster's running gear included power-assisted rack and pinion steering, Macpherson strut independent front suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. Initially powered by 1.8 or 1.9 litre four-cylinder engines allied to either manual or automatic transmission, larger capacity 2.8 Litre straight-six units joined the Z3 range from 1996 onwards. Boasting 52:48 weight distribution and a top speed of over 125mph, the stylish two-seater found fame as James Bond's transport in the 1995 film Goldeneye.
First registered in the 14th January 2000, 'V130 AFE' was first sold by Sopers of Lincoln BMW to a Miss Downs of Lincoln who kept the car until February 2007. It is evident that the car was Miss Downs' pride and joy, as the car was only used sparingly throughout her ownership, completing only 12,000 miles in seven years. The car was then sold to a Mr Oakey, based in Newark, who also used the car very rarely, clocking up only another 3,500 miles until the car was sold to our vendor who has held the car in a private collection since 2023. The car comes with its original book pack which includes service documentation, original warranty information and owner's manuals for the car and its original radio which it retains. There are four stamps within the service booklet, the PDI, 3,669 miles, 8,132 miles and 12,893 miles. The document file also is complete with the BMW Approved Used booklet from when the car was sold to its second owner.
Today, this example must be one of the finest on the road today. We were hard pressed to find blemishes on both the exterior and interior and the car drove particularly well when test driven upon consignment. The manual gearbox is slick with the 2.8 Litre Straight Six providing a smooth and assuring tone that is testament to the low mileage displayed. If you are looking for a genuine, investment grade Z3 that is a fun, usable car then look no further than this particular example.
