The Viva GT, based on the second generation Viva HB saloon, was one of Vauxhall's earlier attempts to break into the attractive performance enhanced market, having seen Ford's marketing success with their GT and Lotus variations on the Cortina theme.
Stored for many years, and now recommissioned, this one family owned from 6 months old car, was first registered in 1968. Its specification was further enhanced with parts from marque tuning guru Bill Blydenstein. We understand that the mods were carried out during the 1970s, the overhauled GM motor incorporating uprated oil pump, Blydenstein cylinder head with pinned inlet manifold, twin 45 Webers and two-piece tubular manifold exiting via a single pipe exhaust. To better withstand the reported up to 150bhp, a heavy-duty clutch was employed. The front suspension has been modified to achieve negative camber and the front brake calipers have been renewed, whilst the 2-door saloon bodywork has been repainted in original Monaco white and the bonnet in black, and the otherwise original interior treated to new carpets.
Interesting and correctly modified, this Post Historic category eligible Vauxhall is offered with good history, which includes correspondence and receipts not only from Blydenstein, but also from Sparrow Engineering. On file, too, are Swansea V5 document, fresh MOT pass certificate, some original sales literature and a spare parts manual. In addition, the vendor has advised us that the original cylinder head and block will be supplied with the car as spares - what more could you ask for?
PLEASE NOTE this vehicle now has an MOT until feb 2005
