The Lambretta TV175 series 3 was launched in March 1962 and it was the first scooter supplied with an internal disc brake. It was a remarkable change from the previous TV175 series 2 with new sleek slim styling. The TV series 3 also had larger silent blocks than the previous engines and it had a very good reputation as a smooth and well-balanced scooter with great handling attributes. The larger engined TV200 quickly followed in early 1963 at the specific request of the British importer Lambretta Concessionaires who wanted an even more powerful model to satisfy their customer base. Genuine TV200 Lambrettas were instantly recognised as the GT200 to differentiate them from the TV175 models.

This late example of a genuine GT200 was first registered new on July 14th 1965 by Frettons of Warwick and has had midlands ownership only since. She was sold to a Mr William Pettipher on 25th June 1966 so appears to have been in shop stock for almost a year. She was sold to a Mr Geoffrey Bradley on 1st December 1975 and it is he who sold it to the vendor in 1979. The current owner has owned, loved and ridden this scooter extensively for 43 years. It is only for sale due to genuine ill health. The vendor has a long history of European rallies and excursions to Italy and trips to the Isle of Man where he participated in the scooter sporting activities there. No stranger to long rides he prepared the scooter for a long future together with his beloved GT. He spent a considerable sum having it repainted and restored and a further even more considerate sum having it professionally mechanically renewed by Cambridge Lambretta in 2014. The bill for this came to over £9,000 alone. Knowing exactly what he wanted the unique and extensive work included:

  • Professional paintwork by Paul Hindle bodyshop in original Lambretta white and gold flecked green with in striping on wheel rims and side panels and dampers matched up in the green paint
  • Mugello 225 Ultimate Kit top end coupled with SX200 gearing
  • Long range fuel tank and fuel protector
  • Reserve fuel light on new speedometer
  • Completely rewired
  • Sat nav and phone USB charging points and fast charger in Ulma style accessory glove box
  • 12 volt electronics
  • Gori high performance exhaust at additional cost of £650
  • Throttle return spring
  • Original type Giuliari seat
  • Targa line adjustable rear shock
  • Dellorto 30 PHBH Ultimate adjustable power carburettor jetted to 55 PHBH
  • GP Ultimate 58/107 crank
  • We are told every other part also replaced as brand new in 2014.
  • She was used regularly for 2 years after the restoration

The history file the accompanies the scooter is equally impressive in itself. From original green log book through to a large number of older bills from throughout the scooters life. Also included are most of the MOT’s from 1979 when our vendor acquired the scooter through to 2013 and large file of further interest brochures and price lists throughout the decades. The scooter was commended as ‘coolest scooter’ by Ronnie Scotts, Birmingham in 1997. The vendor has an agreed valuation by his insurers for £22,000 and a further sale valuation by Disco Dez scooters of up to £25,000. This genuine Lambretta GT scooter has had so very much expenditure lavished on it. And it has been done in such a way with long distance reliable powerful riding in mind. It represents an extremely attractive proposition for anyone wishing to do the same.
