1929 DeSoto Six Model K Tourer

Estimated at £12,000 - £14,000

Lot details
Registration No: SV 4978
Chassis No: K24298
Mot Expiry: Exempt

Chrysler's DeSoto brand was incorporated in May 1928 and created to compete with the mid-price competitors of Oldsmobile, Mercury, Studebaker, Hudson and Willys. Quite why the newcomer was named after the Mississippi-discovering Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto seems, however, to have been lost in the mists of time. The initial product, dubbed the Model K, was manufactured alongside its Chrysler and Plymouth siblings at the corporation's Highland Park headquarters near Detroit. It also shared the body panels of the Plymouth, but was powered by a six rather than four-cylinder engine. The public liked what they saw and the Model K's first year sales created a record that remained unbroken for over 30 years. The tidy righthand drive Tourer version offered is finished in Cream, trimmed in Brown and rides on artillery wheels. It has benefited from a recent brake overhaul and oil/filter change and comes complete with full weather equipment, original handbook and V5C.
