The Lambretta LD was a very popular model globally throughout the 1950’s and in the UK had its ardent admirers even after the much improved Li series was introduced. The AVV electric start 150cc version is a very rare scooter anywhere but particularly in Great Britain. The price of this ‘luxury model’ was as high as the TV series 1 when it was introduced and there was slight cross-over between the two models in 1957 when they would be found side by side in showrooms. With 12v electrics, a glove box for the instruments and self starter lever the AVV was the pinnacle of Lambretta shaft driven scooters and the last shaft driven model that Innocenti made.
This example was registered new with the first lady owner on 3rd September 1957 by a Miss Jennifer Spring and remained in the same family until our vendor purchased it from them in 2016. The scooter underwent a meticulous restoration which is well documented in the supplied documents. We note from the extensive bills file that over £3000 was spent in parts. Painted in standard Lambretta colours it is a matching numbers example as can be seen from the original buff log book. Our vendor was abe to reclaim successfully the original and interesting registration number. The mileage at 6168 is believed genuine. The scooter was exhibited at the International Isle of Wight Scooter rally in 2017 and won two awards; Best European restoration and Exhibitors Choice Best Restoration. The trophies are included in the sale. Very original in appearance the scooter is standard except for the digital ammeter and rev counter which could be removed as 2 blanking cover plates are also supplied with the scooter. All keys are present and we are told she is ready to go and be enjoyed on the road.
This rare scooter might well be entirely suitable for someone who wishes to ride a classic scooter without the necessity to operate a kick start.
