Further Info:

Ford's Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac models were heavily revamped and restyled for the 1956 model year, during which the engine capacity of the six-cylinder cars was increased to 2553cc, which in turn raised the output to 86bhp. The model came with the choice of three-speed manual gearbox and the option of overdrive, or Borg Warner automatic transmission. The substantial hood of the Convertible version could be purchased with or without power assistance, and lowered in two stages; the first of which was a glamorous-looking 'de ville' position. An overdrive-equipped Convertible put through its paces by Motor magazine delivered a top speed of 88.3mph and a 0-60mph acceleration time of 17.0 seconds - as tested, the car cost £1193.

This truly delightful Convertible has been known to the vendor since it was new, as he worked in the road where it first lived. The Zephyr was supplied to its first owner by Rugby Autocar; dealers for the Coventry and Warwickshire area at the time. It was first registered in August 1958 and has had just three owners since, and apparently covered just 75,000 miles. The Ford has never undergone restoration and, aside of the occasional bout of cosmetic paintwork, remains remarkably original; even down to the Aquaplane triple carburettor and six-branch exhaust manifold conversion that was fitted when the car was new. Very comprehensively equipped, the Zephyr also comes with overdrive, full and half tonneau covers, polished wheels trims, period radio, auxiliary lights and badge bar with numerous badges. Finished in an eye-catching shade of Red and trimmed in Cream with matching hood and tonneaus, this wonderfully evocative '50s Ford is now offered complete with history file containing MOT certificates back to 1980, items of Ford Owners' Club material, the original handbook and warranty card, plus various hand-written items contributed by former owners.

PLEASE NOTE: The registration number 'SVC 1' showing on this vehicle is not included in the sale, but is available via separate negotiation.
