The distinctive rounded shape of the iconic alloy-bodied Airstream motorhomes dates back to the 1930s, when it was penned by Hawley Bowlus, the man who had previously overseen the construction of Charles Lindbergh's record-breaking 'Spirit of St Louis' aeroplane. The marque continues to grow in popularity and these days some 1,000 trailers and motorhomes are produced each year in the company's long established facility at the Jackson Center Ohio, from where they are shipped all around the world. In their native America, the owners of these unique RVs are known as Airstreamers and there are more than a dozen Airstream parks across the country where you can buy or rent Airstream products.

The 1988 example on sale was driven 1,500 miles through the USA prior to being imported to the UK in July this year, and is understood to have had just one previous, careful owner and covered a mere 66,000 miles from new. It is an Airstream 345 Motorhome that's 34-ft long and 7-ft 11-in wide. It is powered by a GM 345 cu in (5.6-litres) V8 petrol engine. The specification includes: a rear tag axle; self-levelling hydraulic jacking system; A-frame 'Blue Ox' towing system; Onan 4kw generator, and Zip Dee awning of approximately 6.5 x 3 metres. In recent times this fine-looking RV has been fitted with a new radiator, carburetter, tyres, spare wheel and a pair of batteries. The fuel pump has been replaced and the tank and entire system overhauled. The luxury interior includes a twin rear bedroom and the vehicle's original solid oak furniture and fittings. The impressive specification includes: freezer, fridge, microwave, air conditioning, central heating, cooker, built-in food blender, hot/cold water, separate shower and toilet compartments and electric steps. There are new curtains and new carpeting in the rear. A splendid vehicle that hopefully should provide years of pleasure to its next keeper.

PLEASE NOTE: The CC of this vehicle is 7439 and not as stated in the catalogue.
