The Subaru Impreza (adapted from the Italian word impresa, meaning achievement) has been with us since November 1993 and was immortalized by the Prodrive-inspired run of WRC Constructors' titles in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and Drivers' championships for the late Colin McRae (1995), the late Richard Burns (2001) and Petter Solberg (2003). The model's distinctive engine note stems from its four-cylinder `boxer' engine that has good inherent balance and makes for a low centre of gravity. The basis of the performance models has been the four-wheel drive, turbocharged WRX. In the late `80s, Subaru formed a division specifically to co-ordinate its motorsport activities; not least its assault on the FIA World Rally Championship. Dubbed Subaru Tecnica International (STI), it went on to create high-performance road-going derivatives of the WRX model.
This particular example began life as a limited-edition 2006 Spec. C Group N car and would have retailed for £37,995 in the UK. A specialised version of the WRX STi, the Spec. C was lighter and stiffer, all to make it more suitable for use in motor sport. Determined to give his Impreza supercar humbling performance, the vendor enlisted the help of marque tuning specialist Litchfield amongst others. The result is a truly bespoke machine which reportedly boasts a Litchfield-built 2.1 litre closed deck block stroker engine (custom mapped by Bob Rawle, fully blueprinted to withstand 900+ bhp, Omega pistons, Roger Clark Motorsport Xtreme conrods, 14mm WRC headstuds, Litchfield LM500-S70 twinscroll turbo, RCM 80mm induction kit, Hyper Flow GT660 GT3 front-mounted intercooler, Litchfield 800cc injectors, automatic water spray, RCM catch can, Prodrive 3-port boost control, Spec C oil cooler, Spec C anti-surge fuel pump, equal length manifold, full 3-inch Milltek exhaust system), Exedy hyper clutch with flywheel, uprated 3-way AST suspension (Whiteline components, front / rear anti-sway bars, STI anti-lift kit, STI front strut brace, Spec C seam-welded front strut towers, caster kit), enlarged Alcon brakes all round, 18-inch flow formed Speedline alloys shod with Toyo R888 tyres, driver controlled centre differential (DCCD), Prodrive front grille kit, reverse bonnet scoop, Spec C roof vent, CAT 1 alarm and Kenwood DNX 9240BT stereo with integrated Garmin navigation system and Parrot phone system etc. Showing just 10,300 miles to its odometer less than 2,000 of which have been covered on the improved engine, the Impreza was last bench tested at 510bhp and 490lbft but has benefited from additional tuning work since then.
