Chateau Impney

Lot 10

1935 Armstrong Siddeley 20hp Saloon

Estimated at £10,000 - £14,000

Lot details
Registration No: BTN 649
Chassis No: 46717
Mot Expiry: Exempt

The chassis for `BTN 649' was laid down in December 1934 and then equipped with Burlington Saloon body no. B928. It was purchased new from Reah Brothers of Newcastle by Sir William Errington Hume, a Scottish surgeon who performed the first open-heart surgery in the UK - his son was Cardinal Hume, the Archbishop of Westminster. Much restoration has been carried out since the Armstrong was discovered under a tarpaulin in a tram-shed, where it had lain from 1964. The engine had apparently had some attention in the `90s, and since then: the wings have been repaired; the brakes relined; the fuel tank, tyres, inner tubes and batteries replaced; the radiator re-cored; the water pump and wiper motor refurbished; and some of the chrome attended to. It apparently remains to finalise the fitting of the wings, the re-wiring of the lights and wiper motor, and the installation of the front dampers. A timewarp car and exciting project.
