Rare ‘Car on Two Wheels’ heads to auction for the first time in 30 years
A rare, and extremely original, 1961 Maico Mobil MB 200 is to be auctioned for the first time in over 30 years by H&H Classics. Believed to be just one of a handful in the UK, the scooter is estimated at £12,000 - £14,000 when it heads to auction at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull, on 15 November.
Sold to its current, and third owner in the early 1990s, it was originally registered in 1961 by famous London scooter dealer Claude Rye, before being sold to its first owner in Yorkshire on 13 July of the same year.
Almost completely in its original black paintwork, the Maico is offered with its orginal buff logbook, its original user’s handbook and full instructions book in English, as well as its original German parts handbook. In addition, the scooter, which has covered just 10,000 miles in its 60 plus year lifetime, also comes with a number of old MOT certificates, tax discs and a Maico key ring.
Paul Diamond, scooter specialist at H&H Classics, said: “We consider it an honour to offer this rare opportunity to purchase this original Maico for the first time in three decades.
“The scooter, which was described when new as a ‘car on two wheels’ is in fantastic original condition with a complete history file, making it perfectly usable and a great addition to someone’s collection.”
H&H’s auction will take place on 15 November at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull and will have over 45 lots. Viewing will take place from 1pm – 6pm on 14th November and those interested in bidding on the Maico or any other lots can do so in person, online, via telephone or by leaving a commission bid.
