Classic car owners handed ULEZ lifeline

  • Complimentary classic car valuation service announced for residents of the capital
  • Expanded ULEZ charge an additional burden for many classic car owners
  • Service helps to move classics on to new owners

Thousands of classic car owners within London have been handed a financial lifeline by leading auction house, H&H, who has announced details of a complimentary valuation service for those living inside the M25.

The service is expected to prove popular with owners of classic cars whose vehicles will not be exempt under the expanded ULEZ scheme which comes into force on 29 August. Under the expansion, owners of non-compliant vehicles will have to pay £12.50 per day for use of their car within the expanded zone.

“Sadly for many classic car owners in London, the expanding ULEZ charging zone means that they may no longer find it financially viable to own and run their vehicle,” explains Colette McKay, managing director, H&H Classics. “Rather than seeing these cars potentially rust away in storage, we would much rather help them move on to new owners, who can enjoy them without the financial burden of the ULEZ charge. Not only will this help extend the life of these cherished vehicles, but it will also help owners liquidate valuable assets which may be incredibly welcome during the current cost of living crisis.”

To take advantage of the valuation service, owners need to complete a simple form on H&H’s website – handh.co.uk – or call the team on 01925 210035. By supplying a selection of images of the vehicle along with a brief description and details of mileage, owners can expect to receive a free estimated value from H&H’s specialist advisors within 24 hours. Should owners then decide to sell the vehicle, this can be entered into one of H&H’s online or physical auctions. Furthermore, for those who do decide to enter their classic into one of H&H’s auctions without reserve, they benefit from no sellers’ fees.

“In the past, we saw many rare classics lost forever as a result of the government’s vehicle scrappage scheme. It’s important that we don’t experience a similar fate with this latest legislation, and we can help keep these vehicles on the road and enjoyed by their next custodians,” added McKay.
