Mot Expiry: Nov 2010

Notable as Porsche's last air-cooled 911 range, the 993 series was introduced in September 1993. A quantifiable improvement in terms of handling, ride quality and drivetrain refinement, the newcomer used a monocoque bodyshell which was some 20% stiffer than that of the outgoing 964 series. While, the adoption of multi-link rear suspension in place of the previous semi-trailing arms brought notable gains in high-speed stability and road noise suppression. The work of Englishman Tony Hatter, its restyled bodywork remained faithful to the classic 911 silhouette but incorporated a more muscular stance with flared wheelarches, flatter-set headlights and advanced underbody aerodynamics. Further benefiting from power-assisted rack and pinion steering and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, the 993 was powered by a reworked 3.6-litre flat-six engine (strengthened crankshaft, lightened conrods and pistons, hydraulic valve adjustment, twin pipe exhaust etc) allied to six-speed manual or semi-automatic Tiptronic transmission. With 272bhp and 243lbft of torque on tap, it was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds and 167mph. Unveiled in October 1994, the Carrera 4 derivative not only boasted a lightened and improved four-wheel drive system but also standard fit ABD (Automatic Brake Differential). By helping minimize the possibility of individual wheels losing traction under hard acceleration and braking, the latter contributed to the Carrera 4's reputation as one of the fastest point-to-point sportscars that money could buy. For many the last `true' 911, the 993 made way for the watercooled 996 in 1998.

Finished in metallic blue with grey leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its engine, manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim and bodywork. An accompanying service book is reportedly "stamped at 10,000-mile intervals" and there are various bills and receipts for work carried out including "an overhaul of the air-conditioning system" plus "fitment of a Cobra Category 2-1 alarm system circa three years ago". Benefiting from new spark plugs, this desirable sportscar is offered for sale with original handbook, current MOT certificate and copy of `993, King of Porsche, the Essential Companion' by Adrian Streather.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until November 2010.

PLEASE NOTE: The book '993 King of Porsche - The Essential Companion' referred to in the catalogue does not come with the car.
