1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 2+2

Sold for £13,500

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: OBV672H
Chassis No: IR43346BW
Mot Expiry: Sept 2009

Billed as a family friendly E-type, the Series II 2+2 Fixed Head Coupe (known variously as the XKE Family Coupe or XKE Sedan in America) was introduced in 1969. Equipped with a pair of small rear seats and a notably airy feel courtesy of its stretched wheelbase and raised roofline respectively, it benefited from the same fully independent suspension, rack and pinion steering and disc brakes as its two-seater brethren. Powered by a 4235cc dohc straight six engine developing a quoted 246bhp in twin Stromberg carburettor federal specification, it could be had with such options as automatic transmission, power steering and air conditioning. Only in production for three years, a mere 5,326 are thought to have been built.

Finished in red with black leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, three-speed automatic gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork and wheels / tyres. Beginning life in America, it is said to have been "converted to RHD by an expert". Entering the current ownership via our 12th April 2006 auction, the past three years have apparently seen the E-type benefit from "new carpets and tyres" as well as "some underbonnet and boot floor detailing". Riding on chrome wire wheels, the 2+2 is understood to "start and drive superbly". Given the comparative lack of wear to its "original upholstery", the Jaguar's indicated mileage of 65,972 is believed but not warranted to be genuine. A stylish yet practical E-type that has been "maintained on a regular basis" `OBV 672H' is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until September 12th 2009 and historic class (free) road tax until September 2009.
