Lot details Registration No: KUJ924F Chassis No: HBJB/427399 Mot Expiry: Sept 2003
The Austin-Healey, first with the 2.6-litre 100/6 but, from 1959, with the 3-litre 3000 MkI, quickly achieved legendary status on the great European rallies of the day. Almost immediately, a Healey 3000 finished second overall on the German Rally and a second in category on the Alpine. It was in the 1960s, however, that the hairy-chested icon recruited a worldwide fan club by securing outright victories on the most punishing car test of them all, the Liege Marathon, and the Alpine, as well as securing second and third places on our own RAC Rally of Great Britain.
The final 'Big Healey', the 3000 MkIII or BJ8, was built from 1963 until 1968. The 1967-manufactured, standard production specification, original right-hand drive example being offered here has done 69,000 miles as supported by old MOTs going back many years. Also on file, we understand, are many bills totalling almost £7000 of recent expenditure detailing restoration work carried out. Having an F suffix on the registration indicates that this is a very late example of the BJ8, which is finished in the most popular colour of all, red.
With the sun shining, the hood down and the 6-cylinder motor on full burble, there is nothing quite like a Healey 3000, and yet when you want to really go places, one of the most traditional of all British sports cars will deliver with just a dab of the loud pedal.
Please Note: This vehicle is MOT'd until September 2003
