67,000 MILES FROM NEW
A Porsche 911 is no ordinary motorcar and `Y214 KDP' is no ordinary 911. Under the skin it is a 996 Carrera 4 that was first registered on March 1st 2001. However, to all but the trained eye, it appears to be a GT3, for it sports a full GT3 aerokit and rides on 18-inch Sport Classic II wheels and is equipped with a sports exhaust system that terminates in oval shaped tail pipes. The gleaming coachwork is appropriately finished in Porsche Speed Yellow, while the contrasting interior is trimmed in Black leather complemented by special order yellow stitching for the facia, seats, door trim and gear lever gaiter. The effect is completed by a set of yellow seats belts. The Porsche's comprehensive specification also includes a Becker satellite navigation system complete with two navigation CDs, three manuals and a code card, the total cost of which was £1,410. Other items of particular significance are the electric sports seats, six-stack CD autochanger, stainless steel kick panels on the door sills, Porsche over-mats and dust cover, and a spare key. The extensive history file includes: service invoices for £12,800; the original service book that's stamped up to 62,826 miles; handbook; Porsche dealer guide and assistance and map booklets; seven old MOT certificates.
While the car's original drivetrain and running gear can't be expected to compete with those of a genuine GT3, a 996 Carrera 4 is no mean performer in its own right, and more than quick enough for most people. Power comes from a 3.4-litre DOHC water-cooled flat six engine that produces 300bhp at 6,800 rpm - reputedly sufficient to accelerate the Porsche to 60mph in a mere 4.8 seconds and on to a top speed of some 164 mph. The unit is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that, in the case of the Carrera 4, drives through all four wheels. Suspension is independent all round by MacPherson struts and coil springs at the front and a multi-link system and coil springs at the rear. Steering is by a power-assisted rack and pinion set-up and braking courtesy of servo-assisted cross-drilled discs and four-pot callipers at all corners. Prior to its upgrades and extras, `Y214 KDP' would have originally cost in the region of £70,000 and is one of some 12,643 Carrera 4 Coupes made before the range was superseded by the 997. This car is clearly a head turner and is described by the vendor as being in "beautiful, undamaged, unmarked condition".
