  • Triumph T140V engine in a Trackmaster frame
  • Ceriani forks, Koni shocks and Lester alloy wheels
  • Supplied with US title and proof of import in 2005

In 1967 the USA Triumph importers approached expert race tuner Ray Hensley with a request to build custom frames to be stamped with official Triumph part numbers, creating "official" factory replacements. As a factory listed option, it bypassed AMA "Class C" dirt-track rules only allowing use of standard parts and what Trackmaster developed was an improved version of the basic 1965 Triumph Bonneville chassis. Hensley’s first frames for Triumph were chrome-moly steel and featured revised geometry that would allow the bikes to handle more aggressively on dirt tracks. A former racer himself and a self taught engineer, Hensley was helped by legendary flat track champion Gary Nixon who loaned him $1,000 to set up a business and start production. The first Trackmaster frame went to another flat track legend Gene Romero with Nixon getting his soon after and they went on to set new standards in the class. Soon competitors like Redline and Champion appeared to challenge Trackmaster but Hensley’s company stayed number one.

This Trackmaster, built around a c.1973 T140V engine in frame number 0015, was bought by the vendor from JD Classics in 2010 and has since been used by him in DTRA and Malle Mile flat track events and even a few cheeky runs on the road. It is fitted with Ceriani front forks, Koni rear shocks and Lester alloy wheels. Not much is known of its history in the US but the graphics on the panels mention Ted Evans of Venice, California, a well-known dealer back in the 1970s who was involved in off-road sport. Intriguingly the name 'Hinely' has been welded onto the headstock, possibly a previous rider or even the person who put the frame together. The bike is not registered in the UK but comes with its American title and Pre NOVA ‘HMCE C&E 389’ import documents from 2005, when it was imported by JD Classics.
