Colin Chapman applied his ingenuity to a true road car looking for profit but in fact the Elite lost a considerable amount of money. It was though a technical triumph and was the world's first competent glass fibre monocoque and was a daring and handsome design with Chapman struts to the rear, discs all round, in board at the rear, and power was delivered by the Coventry Climax alloy engine which was light and powerful and, from 1960, it was connected to the close ratio ZF gearbox.
This particular example is one of only 998 manufactured and has been with the current owner for thirty years. It has the twin carburettor version of the Coventry Climax 1216cc engine and of course dating from 1962 it has the afore mentioned ZF gearbox. We are informed that it is in very good condition throughout and drives very well and naturally has the original logbook, a full MOT and it is currently tested for the road until next year as well as being exempt from road fund licence.
These are highly desirable cars both for the road and for racing and this particular car with its continuous thirty year history should be highly sought after by collectors and racers alike.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
