Introduced at the September 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show, the R230-series of Mercedes-Benz’s long-running SL range remained in production for ten years. Arguably the most accomplished two-seater Grand Tourer of its generation, the newcomer offered a blend of performance, ride, handling and refinement that few, if any, rivals could match. The initial flagship before the arrival of the AMG models, the SL500 was powered by a 5-litre V8 engine allied to five-speed automatic transmission. With some 302bhp / 339lbft of torque on tap, it was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds and 155mph.
Presented in Brilliant Silver Metallic with contrasting Grey leather interior, this particular 2004 year car boasts an impressive specification including Navigation with Command APS system and telephone connectivity, front and rear park assist, rollover bar, heated 3-way memory seats, cruise control, power-adjust steering wheel, dual zone climate control and more. In March 2019 the car was subject to a major service including a gearbox service, ball joints, engine mounts and a suspension system overhaul at a cost of £2,188, as well as replacement discs and pads that same month. The car was then sold through Whitson Prestige in April 2020 and purchased by the vendor in June the following year. Now offered for sale by the vendor due to a larger purchase, the car displays just 63,671 miles on the odometer with an MOT valid until 13 October 2023 with no advisories.
Accompanied with the vehicle is an impressive history file containing its original bookpack. Included within is the Owner’s manual, Certificate of Conformity, Retailer directory, Mobil Oil booklet, Car Care guide, SL Class in Brief booklet, Privileges pamphlet, Command APS owner’s manual and service booklet containing 10 stamps, the last in March 2019 at 56,474 miles. Please note the car was then self-serviced c.500 miles ago in October 2022. Also included within the history file are previous sales receipts, previous invoices for work done and servicing, most MOT certificates dating back to 2008, previous V5C documents and the current which displays 6 former keepers.
