The DAF YA328 is a military vehicle that was manufactured by the Dutch truck manufacturer DAF between 1952 and 1959. It was designed to be a versatile and robust off-road vehicle that could be used for a variety of military purposes, such as troop transportation, cargo hauling, and towing artillery pieces. It was powered by a Hercules JXLD of 5.5 litres, 131bhp at 3,200rpm. The engine was coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive on 5th and a two-speed transfer case that provided both high and low-range gearing for off-road use. The YA328 featured a four-wheel drive system with front and rear locking differentials, allowing for superior traction in challenging terrain. Its chassis is constructed of sturdy ladder-type steel, while the suspension consisted of leaf springs and hydraulic shock absorbers. The vehicle had a maximum payload capacity of 2,000kg and a towing capacity of up to 5,000kg. Its ground clearance of 40cm and approach and departure angles of 45 and 50 degrees, respectively, make it highly capable in rough and uneven terrain. The YA328 was widely used by the Royal Netherlands Army (Koninklijke Landmacht) and proved itself to be a reliable and versatile military vehicle, seeing action in several conflicts, including the Korean War and the Indonesian War of Independence.
This particular example, benefiting from the related number plate ‘328 XVG’, is fitted with a number of accessories including a front-mounted gun rack with rear-mounted winch for an artillery gun. Also included are a number of pieces of equipment including shovel, axe, jerry cans and more. Registered in the UK in May of 2019, this particular example has been enjoyed by its current military restoration enthusiast owner since August of last year, but due to lack of use and further ongoing projects is now offered for sale. Included with the vehicle is a spare set of Continental tyres as photographed and the V5C document which displays 1 former keeper.
