The first Ford Anglia was launched in 1939, while the fourth and last - the 105E/123E - broke cover in 1959. The styling displayed a strong American influence and included a sweeping nose, notchback rear window and muted tail fins. The newcomer (105E) benefited from an equally new engine, a 997cc OHV straight-four unit codenamed 'Kent', versions of which powered all manner of Fords for years after. In another Ford first, it was mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh on the top three ratios. Suspension was by MacPherson strut at the front and a 'live' axle on leaf springs at the rear.

The 1962 105E being offered would appear to be a collectors' dream. According to its history file, '7008 MW' was purchased new by a Mr Gray as an anniversary present for his wife. It was a special order car with Black paintwork, radio, locking petrol cap and seat covers (still on the car). By all accounts the couple celebrated the purchase with a short holiday in Weymouth (the three car parking tickets and street map purchased during the trip are also on file). The sad part of the story is that Mrs Gray didn't like the car, which led to it covering just 15,000 miles over the next 10 years and then being stored in a barn between 1972 and 2000.

Evidently, before the time warp Ford could be recovered from its resting place, the barn doors had to be dug open - an event that was recorded on video (and committed to the file). Since being released back into the world, the Anglia has reportedly been treated to a new coat of paint, an engine overhaul and the following replacement parts: brake master and wheel cylinders; clutch and slave cylinder; windscreen and radiator. As there was no rust, no welding was required. Apparently, the only non-standard items are the 5.5J wheels.

As '7008 MW' has only completed around 1,500 miles since it was recommissioned, the total mileage is still believed to be a mere 16,500 from new. The Ford comes with a full service history and a new MOT, and is clearly quite a head turner.
