Contracted to engineer a flagship sports coupe for VW-Audi in the early 1970s (codenamed EA435), Porsche was only too glad to buy back the design rights when their client ran into financial difficulties. Paying DM 100 million for the privilege (somewhat less than they had charged for the work) they readily agreed to VW's stipulation that the new car be built at the latter's Neckarsulm plant. Suitably reworked, the Harm Lagaay styled EA435 was unveiled to the world as the Porsche 924 in 1975. Based around a two-door coupe monocoque shell equipped with MacPherson strut front and trailing arm rear suspension, it boasted a 50:50 weight distribution thanks to its rear-mounted transaxle. Powered by a 1984cc SOHC four-cylinder engine developing some 125bhp and 121lbft of torque, it was reputedly capable of 125mph and 0-60mph in 9.5 seconds. Noted for its fine handling (some unkind pundits said that it cornered too well for a Porsche!), it was systematically evolved gaining optional five-speed transmission in 1978 (standardised the following year) and a fully galvanised bodyshell in 1981.

Manufactured in 1985, this 924 was first registered in the United Kingdom in June that year being supplied new via and first registered to Dingle Garages, the official Porsche centre based in Colwyn Bay, for use as a demonstrator. Fitted with the 1984cc straight-four engine allied to the five-speed manual transmission, the Porsche is finished in its original Kalahari with Biscuit cloth interior upholstery. Entering its sole private ownership when six months old, ‘B766 OEY’ has remained in said elderly lady ownership since, covering approximately 124,000 miles from new.

An economical gateway into classic Porsche ownership, the 924 offers sports car behaviour from the iconic premium stable. Specified from new with optional extras including cloth-covered door cards, top-tinted windscreen, detachable roof panel, electric windows and being over-carpeted from new, the 924 pleasingly retains its original dealer number plates (both front and rear). Described by the vendor as having ‘corrosion-free bodywork’, the Porsche has only seen very scarce use since circa 2019, so it may need some recommissioning. ‘B766 OEY’ is offered with the original book pack containing the stamped service book displaying eleven stamps (most from Dingles Garage Porsche) as well as a previous MOT certificate, V5 document and set of spare keys.

Vendor Condition Ratings:

Bodywork: 'Excellent’
Engine: 'Excellent'
Electrical Equipment: 'Very Good'
Paintwork: ‘Excellent'
Gearbox: 'Excellent'
Interior Trim: 'Very Good'
