The T100T variant of the Tiger was named in honour of and benefited from the company's success in the 500cc class at Daytona in 1966 which also gave it its more commonly used name - Daytona. It represented the ultimate development of the unit construction 500cc Triumph which had first been seen in 1959 when the 5TA had joined the catalogue as a replacement for the pre unit 5T Speed Twin. The 5TA had quickly been joined by the more sporting T100A which offered a higher level of performance due to higher compression pistons and a revised camshaft profile. The sporting Tiger 100 would be subject to a number of changes and revisions during the following years, usually accompanied by an increase in performance that culminated in the introduction of the Daytona in 1967. Early versions were equipped with a single leading shoe front brake, however, for 1969 the front brake was changed to the twin leading shoe unit employed the previous year on the 650cc twins and the model code was changed to T100R for the 1971 season. When Motor Cycle News tested an example they recorded a top speed of 111 mph and still managed to record 64 miles to the gallon! Revisions to the standard T100 engine which enabled these figures to be achieved included the use of a 9:1 compression ratio, splayed inlets for the twin carburettors and Bonneville profile camshafts.
The example offered has been restored to a very high standard throughout and displays only 4,296 miles. Recently imported from the United States it is described as running "perfectly" and is offered Vat and Duty paid in the UK.
