The Trophy could trace its origins back to the machines successfully campaigned in the 1948 ISDT. When the new model was introduced to the public it quickly became apparent that its forte did not lie in section trials but in the world of long distance events of the type that were becoming increasingly popular in the United States. As introduced in 1949 the Trophy utilised a rigid frame unique to the model housing an all alloy 500cc engine with squarish barrels and head of a type employed on the generator set manufactured by Triumph for the RAF during the war. These items were replaced by ones of a more conventional appearance, still of alloy construction, for the 1951 season. The next significant change occurred in 1955 when the model adopted the pivoted fork frame that had first been seen on the 1954 Tiger 100 and 110 models. By 1958 when the example offered was built Triumph were able to state in their advertising material that "the Triumph Trophy model is a tough, fast and durable mount for the competition rider. It has achieved successes without number throughout the world, and particularly in U>S>A where, for example, in 1957 all three National Scrambles Championships were secured by Trophy riders."
This matching numbers machine was exported to the States in 1958returning to Europe in 2006 where its restoration was undertaken by the well known Dutch restorer Jim Hiddleston. Finished in black and silver it is described by the vendor as being in good condition throughout. It is offered with Swansea V5C, a dating certificate issued by the VMCC, a road fund license valid until the 30th July 2010 and a Mot certificate valid until the 22nd July 2010.
